Today in History...

Today in History I learned about the effects of the industrial revolution.

The Industrial Revolution was a period in the late 18th and early 19th centuries when major changes in agriculture, manufacturing, production, and transportation had a profound effect on the socioeconomic and cultural conditions in Britain. The changes subsequently spread throughout Europe, North America, and eventually the world. The onset of the Industrial Revolution marked a major turning point in human society; almost every aspect of daily life was eventually influenced in some way.

Today in Math...

Today in math i learned about vectors.

A vector involves translations. It's the distance on a coordinate plane from one image to it's translated self. If you have a triangle at points (1,2) (1,3) and (1,1) and you move the triangle to points (1,3) (1,4) and (1,2) you have a vector of <0,1> if you had moved it down a unit, you would have a vector of <0,-1>

spicy lentils in pita bread

my mum made these when i was a little veg..hahahah...theyre wonderful!

Spicy Lentils in Pita Bread

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

4 tablespoon Olive oil
1 Onion, finely chopped
6-7 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
8oz Turkish Brown Lentils (washed, picked over - no need to soak!)
1inch cube of fresh ginger, v.finely chopped
1-2 or more Fresh green chillies, finely chopped
1 teaspoon ground Coriander seeds
1 teaspoon ground Cumin seeds
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper (to taste but remeber its HOT)
Water
6-7 oz shelled green peas (Frozen work well)
4-6 heaped tablespoon chopped fresh coriander leaf. Frozen coriander is good too.
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Garam Masala
1 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
6/8 pita breads

Directions:

Serves 4 people.

Fry the onions in oil until lightly browned. Add Garlic. After a minute or so add Ginger, Chillies, coriander, cumin and cayenne.

Then add lentils, and water (to cover) cook until lentils are nice and tender, but don't let them get all mushy. 20-30 minutes depending on your lentils. Top up the water if necessarey.

Add peas, fresh coriander leaf, salt, garam masala, lemon juice. Cook till peas are soft, then reduce until most of the liquid has gone (don't burn it).

Warm the pitas (don't burn them!) until they puff up. Keep watching them as these things **BURN** if you look away!

To serve cut a hole in your vegan pita bread and fill with the mixture, or if you are lazy get evryone to do their own. Serve with yogurt, pickles+chutneys (Indian), Onion relish etc.

oh bejeezus....happenings on the city bus.

well all you creepy creeps out there requested that i blog about my experiences using our public transportation system...so i did.

Pickles:
so i got on the bus after school and 2 ladies were sitting at the back of the bus. one had a full row of white bottom teeth but only one snaggletooth at the top (that was the first thing i noticed). i often wonder if the bottom teeth were more important and needed more care haha. she started frantically searching for her pickles moaning, "where my pickles at??". she finally found them and started to gum one....that obviously didnt work to well...so she decided to scrape the pickle with her one snaggletooth...it was quite effective. (and quite funny)

the nub:
so a lady gets on the bus (she is missing an arm) she has only to the elbow attached. she sits next to a man who is very courteous and offers her a seat, we ride for about 10 minutes, and before i know it i look up to see her smacking this man with her nub!! i have no idea how or why this happened.

Raw Choco Chip Cooking (vegan cooking #1)

Raw Choco Chip cookies

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

Dough:
1 cup cashew flour (grind raw cashews in coffe grinder)
1/2 cup whole oat groats (grind in coffee grinder)
2 tbs agave nectar
2-3 tbs coconut oil
Coco chunks:
1/2 cup or more of vegan cocoa/carob chips (optional)
What I do though:
1/4 cup coconut oil melted
4 tbs cocao powder
1-2 tbs of agave (depends on preference for sweetness)

Directions:

Mix the chocolate chips mix together and freeze in a pan. Do it quickly to avoid the coconut oil getting hard again. When you take it out after about 15 minutes (depending on thickness), break into tiny chunks.

Mix all of the dough ingredients together. (Use your hands, it's easiest).

Now fold in the chocolate chip chunks.

Form into cookie shapes and place in dehydrator for 15- 20 minutes to get warm and hold shape. OR you can put in the refrigerator and eat them cold.

Be sure to store these in the fridge though.

Source of recipe: I just came up with this, may need tweaking, but I think it is perfect!

Makes: 4 servings, Preparation time: 20, Cooking time: 15

reasons to not eat meat numero UNO!

Number of animals killed for meat per hour in the U.S.: 660,000.

let THAT seep deeply into your mind.

VEGAN RECIPE #1 Curry of Fury (in a Hurry!)

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 cans chick peas (drained and rinsed)
1 can coconut milk
1 can pineapple bits in juice
1 can diced tomatoes with chilies (don't drain)
1 can cut baby corn (drained and rinsed)
2 tablespoon curry powder (or to taste)
1 "serving" worth of favorite broth powder/paste
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced

Directions:

Note: for "cans", each of the cans I used was roughly about 2 cups of "contents." You can adjust amounts or add other veggies, tofu, whatever to make it your own.

Prepare all ingredients (open cans). Rinse the beans and corn. The pineapple and tomato "juice" go into the pot!

In a medium pot, combine everything and let simmer for about 15 minutes, until heated through. Easy! Enjoy with rice.

You can add salt or other spices, but my curry mix is pretty good so I'm happy with it like this.

Serves: 4

Preparation time: 10 minutes + heating

Senior Rant #1 (spaghetti and bread)

well today, the issue is: spaghetti&bread
"recieving meals on wheels, the inside of the bell pepper is just one big chunk of meat....so instead the seniors in question decided they would make some "out of this world" spaghettie sauce out this this defective frozen dinner."

the next issue is bread.
"i dont understand why i dont like bread but i ate a half of a loaf of garlic bread today!" Can any readers give a reason this senior did that?

"Daddy's Wig"

so...ya..knoww. i am a big fan of senior citizens...hahaha.
well speaking of seniors i spend 3 days out of the week caring for my wonderful 92 year old great-great grandmother who still goes dancing with her buddies every thursday night, and her daughter who is 76. i thought i might start off by telling you this because you are probably wondering "what the hell does daddy's wig mean?" well ill tell you. today i went to set up a checking account at wells fargo and i was giving the lady my email address. my email address is jazzysquid@gmail.com, so my great-great grandma then proceeds to ask my why my email address is daddy's wig....(she wears hearing aids so she has an excuse) dude...i laughed until is started crying. thank god she has a good sense of humor.
